Riches in a Recession - By: Lady Kinnks of Kinnks.com -
The recession officially began in December 2007. It is expected to continue for another year or even longer, so what are you doing to stay afloat in uncertain times? Dealing with the recession affects the mind, body and hair! Take care of all three, and you can consider yourself a survivor.
The Mind Remember the recession is somewhat a state of mind. For years people enjoyed the false riches of home equity loans and credit cards. Now that the illusion of riches has exploded, it is time to get rid of the stress of debt and start to live within your means. If you are like me, things have always been financially tight. Now, more people are on board for pinching pennies. Remember, it can always be worse! One can learn more by watching Mellody Hobson's special—Good Morning America contributor and President of Ariel Investments’ tv special Unbroke, featuring celebs Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson, the Jonas Brothers, Christian Slater, Cedric the Entertainer, Seth Green, and Rosario Dawson.
The Body Now that the mind is right…the next step is a healthy lifestyle. Eat the right foods, drink water and exercise as almost all health-related problems are a result of some deficiency in one of the three. Also, did you know that your hair is a sign of your general health? Hair that is fragile, breaks easily, and grows slowly are all signs of high stress and general failing health. Evaluate how you’re taking care of your body. 1. Eat a diet rich in protein, vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, nuts etc). Read more on foods to eat and avoid to encourage hair growth. 2. Drink Water. Drinking water flushes your body of toxins, chemicals, and impurities that stifle your hair growth and disrupt your hormone and enzyme imbalances. Water also transports the important nutrients your body needs. Read more on how much water you should drink per day. 3. Exercise regularly for good circulation and overall health. Start by simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work or park your car a greater distance from your destination. What the heck does this have to do with the recession? Helping the mind (reduces stress) and improving the body (water and nutrients) is preventative care. Just imagine the cost of one hospital visit. The savings are grand!
Last and not least…
The Hair Your hair routine should be simple. Shampoo—Condition—Oil—Shea Butter—Style (SCOSS). You don't have to break the bank to have fabulous coils. Just cover all five steps with affordable products and techniques to maintain healthy hair. Products to consider... Shampoo – Use a moisture rich shampoo and conditioner. Use any clear shampoos to avoid product build up. Oil – Use about 1-2 tablespoons of warm 100% pure olive oil to massage your scalp. Shea Butter – I love Shea butter!!! Use Shea Butter to softening the hair. It also acts as a great styling butter as well. Style – Try protective styles like two strand twist that last for weeks with proper maintenance. Sit in front of the TV for a good movie and begin two strand twisting for an hour or so. Leave in the twist for one week and rock the twist out look the following week. Be sure to wash and condition as needed. Congratulate yourself on your progress. You have already saved hundreds by maintaining a healthy mind, preserving good health, using inexpensive quality products and styling your hair on your own. You’ve also eliminated those stinky relaxers from before that could be running you a pretty penny as well. Riches like a healthy mind, body and healthy hair in this economy are absolutely priceless.
